The timeless form of the moon jar is the perfect form on which to play with surface. Whether it's allowing flashes of the clay body to remain bare in contrast with an ash or shino glaze, or whether through the use of feldspar, a translucent quartz-like material that catches the light; form, surface and texture reminds us of the elemental nature of ceramics.

Objects

There is a particular feeling to holding something in your hands in which you can see the marks of creation; a thumbprint or a brushmark. You feel its history and understand that it exists as both an object and a form of communication.

I create everything from a small studio in Fitzroy North. I draw inspiration from this place and from the world around me, building by hand over many hours, sometimes days - or throwing on the wheel, centering the clay, drawing it up, until it finds its final form.

A remnant is something left behind. It is the substance that remains when the rest has disappeared or been destroyed. It survives when the greater part is lost.

The formation of clay is a result of the weathering and erosion of feldspathic rocks over millennia. Clay, whether it be the purer, porcelaneous kaolinite, or earthenware terracotta diluted over time, is what remains after eons, after the wind and rain, after river systems and mountains have come and gone. It is the remnant of colossal, geological and temporal forces.
